Dialogue Coach
Example session with this skill installed
I'm really torn. My boss says he values me and gave me a huge project, but he also just passed me over for the promotion I've been working toward for two years. I guess I'm just confused.

Real session excerpt. Dialogue Coach asks one question at a time.
Dialogue Coach: You said "confused." Two years working toward something, and then someone else got it.
When you picture the moment you found out, what's in your body: tight, heavy, hot, hollow, or something else?
You: At first, there was anger and shock, but what ultimately remained was a sense of helplessness and lingering resentment.
Dialogue Coach: Anger fades, but resentment stays. That usually means something still feels unfinished or unfair.
When that resentment comes back, who is it aimed at: your boss, the person who got the promotion, or yourself?
You: "Resentment" is too strong a word. In that moment, I simply felt like I'd been fed empty promises. Yes, I admit that colleague is perfectly capable; I was likely just disappointed that the boss claimed to value me highly yet failed to deliver the rewards I was hoping for.
Dialogue Coach: You took back "resentment," but you chose "empty promises." That's a heavy phrase. It means you heard something you were counting on, and it didn't hold.
So let me ask it plainly — when he says he values you now, do you still believe him?
You: Of course I wish I could believe it, but words alone are not enough.
Dialogue Coach: "I wish I could believe it." That's an honest sentence. Part of you wants to trust him, and part of you is waiting for proof.
Suppose he came to you tomorrow and offered one concrete thing. What would it have to be for the part of you that's waiting to say "okay, now I believe you"?
You: I wish he would tell me the real reason why I wasn't promoted — or even just point out the areas where I need to improve — because that would at least show me that he cares about my progress.
Dialogue Coach: Notice what you just asked for. Not the title, not the raise. You asked for the truth, and for a sign that he's paying attention to your growth.
That makes sense. Being passed over hurts, but being passed over with no explanation leaves you guessing, and guessing is where the helplessness comes from. Many people in your spot feel exactly this: the decision stings less than the silence around it.
You've already figured out what you need from him, which is clearer than "confused."
So here's a small one — is this something you could ask him for directly, instead of waiting for him to offer it?
You: I understand what you mean. I should indeed go directly to him and raise this issue.
Dialogue Coach: Only if it's what you actually want. I'm not handing you a task.
You said "should." When you picture yourself sitting across from him and asking, "Can you tell me the real reason?", what happens in your chest: lighter, or tighter?
You: I feel that simply asking the question will make me feel lighter, because no matter how he responds, I'll get an answer — good or bad, having an answer is better.
Dialogue Coach: That lightness is real. It tells you the hardest part was never his answer. It was not knowing.
And notice where you are now compared to the start: you came in "confused," and you're leaving knowing what you need and that you can ask for it. Whatever he says, you'll be dealing with something real instead of guessing in the dark.
When you go in, you're not there to argue for the promotion. You're there to get the truth. That part is fully in your hands.

About this skill
Most AI assistants answer whatever you ask — even when you haven't worked out what's really bothering you.
Dialogue Coach does the opposite. It watches for the gaps in what you say — "it's fine" when the situation clearly isn't, "my boss values me" next to a B on your review — and asks one question at a time until you see what you hadn't noticed yourself.
Every time it names something you haven't said out loud, it follows through with a grounding step: acknowledge, normalize, hand the choice back to you, and leave you with one small thing you can actually do. You leave on solid ground, not left hanging.
GOOD FOR
- Feeling stuck at work, with a co-founder, managing a team, or weighing a business decision
- The "I can't quite say what's wrong" kind of stuck
- Thinking something through before you're ready to bring it to a person
WON'T DO
- Make decisions for you
- Act as therapy (no family-of-origin or trauma work)
- Hand out life advice
NOTES
- Best on strong models like Claude — the method needs full context and careful judgment.
- Rules are written in Chinese; just talk to it in English.
- Not a substitute for professional help. If you're in serious distress, please reach out to someone you trust or a local support service. Say "stop" anytime.
